Chalking and Talking #chalkLES

LES history month has kicked off! As you may or may not know, May is officially Lower East Side history month. Some of us Bowery Birds decided to hit the streets of the LES to spread awareness, educate and have some fun in the process. We spoke to some local business owners and residents about the LES and learned interesting historical facts, while also promoting our upcoming musical.

The Recording Sessions

Kara has been recently selected for Season 1 of the new television series "The Recording Sessions," which documents the process of making music in the studio. Here's a sneak peak:

Downtown Art Presents "The Waist Maker's Opera"

May 21-23rd, 2014, Kara Green will be performing in the rock musical "The Waistmaker's Opera" at University Settlement located at 184 Eldridge St., New York, N.Y. 1002. This May marks the startup of the newly annual Lower East Side History Month. Featured will be a rock musical, "The Waistmaker's Opera," wherein documents the story of various young women who worked in the Triangle Factory in the early 1900s. They fought for higher wages, safer working conditions and organized a major strike in an attempts to become unionized. On March 25th, 1911, one of the deadliest work accidents occurred in the Triangle Factory and 146 of these women lost their lives. This tragic accident forced many New York City business owners into reforming their practices and marked a major turning point in history for the working class.
